Sugar Refining and Co Refining
in Beet Sugar Factories

Beet sugar industry operates seasonally, the factories operate during the harvest  campaign of the beet, however some factories store some of the evaporated sugar liquor (syrup) to extend the sugar production for some time after completing the harvest. Between campaign the factory equipment and assets remain unutilized, which is for the major part of the year. With the increased possible profit margin from sugar refining, it became very attractive for sugar producers to consider two potential profit improvement strategies:

  1. To introduce Co refining of cane raw sugar during the sugar beet harvest campaign to maximize throughput and efficiency of operation.
  2. To redesign the beet factory to be able to accept cane raw sugar melt as an alternative feedstock for part of the offseason, between campaigns.

CSI has extensive experience to be able to help achieving both approaches in a most cost-effective and least intrusive way, not only by providing the necessary FEED studies, innovative knowhow transfer of sugar refining, and staff-training, but also by  proudly providing a wide range of patented specialty process aids that were specially developed for this purpose, including high performance adsorbents (HPAs), High performance de-colorants (HPDs), filer aids and enzymes.
